Sometimes I just reflect on how magnificent it is that the second game has a character who looks like Makoto Naegi, he dresses like Makoto Naegi, he has the same voice actor as Makoto Naegi, his name is an anagram of 'It's Makoto Naegi!', and he has absolutely no relationship to Makoto Naegi.

Anyway! Nagito Komaeda! What a character. I talk more about him elsewhere on this site, but I'll say a little bit here.

Nagito is very much a love-him-or-hate-him character, and I love him dearly. On a replay, I caught myself smiling fondly as Nagito raved on in the first trial. Nagito being awful just brings me so much joy. He's deeply terrible and deeply fascinating.

I once tried dating Nagito for a while in School Mode. This was incredibly frustrating because I was really bad at predicting how he'd respond to things. I would say something innocuous and he would react weirdly and the atmosphere would turn uncomfortable and nobody would have a good time. He kept expressing surprise at how disappointing a date I'd turned out to be. Eventually, I just gave up. YOU'RE THE WORST, NAGITO. I LOVE YOU, BUT YOU'RE THE WORST.

In other words, it was a perfect representation of what dating Nagito would actually be like. I'm sort of impressed.

Every time I revisit Danganronpa 2, I find myself thinking about how Nagito would have been so moved (by which I may possibly mean 'turned on') by the hope everyone displayed in the final trial. And he didn't get to see it! This is tragic!
