I'm not a huge fan of Danganronpa 2's fourth chapter, largely because the funhouse is such an unpleasant place to be trapped; it's ugly and not particularly interesting. But I'm thankful to the funhouse for one thing: it severely restricted my free time options.

At first, I thought this was a bad thing! I wanted to spend time with Sonia or Chiaki, but, because their next events were set in non-funhouse locations, I found myself unable to. I'd already finished Nagito's events. Frustrated, I settled for Fuyuhiko.

And that's how I discovered that Fuyuhiko's free time events were excellent. He ended up being one of my favourite characters in the game, and I wonder sometimes whether I'd have realised what a great character he is if I hadn't been cornered into spending time with him. I love how he matures over the course of the story while still very recognisably being the person he was at the start; it's hard to think of any other Danganronpa character that has such satisfying character development.

A small detail that delights me in the Danganronpa 3 anime: Fuyuhiko may have his angry don't-care rebel façade, but he's one of the few students who diligently shows up for lessons. You're not fooling anyone, Fuyuhiko.

A friend once asked me what I thought would happen if Hajime and Fuyuhiko had to sleep in a room that only had one bed. My response:

“I’ll sleep on the floor,” Fuyuhiko says.

“Are you sure?” Hajime asks. “We could probably share. You don’t take up that much—”

He catches sight of Fuyuhiko’s expression and falls silent straight away. Oh, fuck. He’s going to be murdered.

There are a few seconds of terrible silence.

“I’m sleeping,” Fuyuhiko says, quiet and dangerous, “on the fucking floor.”
