I like Kyoko as a character, but I feel Trigger Happy Havoc has a tendency to pile a little too much narrative weight on top of her. She's the only consistently useful person in the trials, she's generally the only person to take initiative in any way other than setting up a murder, and as a result it can sometimes feel like every character other than Kyoko gets reduced to an extra, including the protagonist.
It's not a huge issue, but it's a noticeable one. I feel that later Danganronpa games generally do a better job of balancing the importance of the cast, although of course some characters are always going to play a larger role than others.
It's entirely possible that it's not an issue at all, and I'm just resentful that Kyoko outright told me to rotate 11037 a hundred and eighty degrees. Maybe I could have worked it out myself, Kyoko! Let me solve the trial, Kyoko; I'm the one playing this game!
Anyway! If I'm going to be a little negative about Kyoko here, I should also balance that out with my favourite thing about Kyoko: I genuinely love her willingness to throw Makoto under the bus in the fifth trial so she can survive. She doesn't want Makoto to die; she's hoping to play this so they can both survive! But, if she has to sacrifice him, she will. It's such a fascinating character detail.
